We are the Hanover Area Young Marines, located in Hanover, PA, and proud to be part of our nation’s premier, award-winning youth development program for boys and girls ages 8 through high school.
The Young Marines program is dedicated to strengthening the lives of America’s youth by promoting self-confidence, leadership, academic achievement, and a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Through a structured environment, we instill the values of good citizenship, community service, and respect for our nation’s veterans.
Our program focuses on the mental, moral, and physical development of each member while building strong character and leadership skills that prepare them to become productive members of society. We are also nationally recognized for our Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) program, one of the leading youth drug prevention efforts in the country.
Since its founding in 1959, the Young Marines has grown from a single unit into a nationwide organization with units across the United States and overseas.
New members begin their journey with Recruit Training, a 26-hour orientation program conducted over several weekly meetings. During this time, youth learn the fundamentals of history, customs and courtesies, close order drill, physical fitness, and rank structure.
After graduation, Young Marines have the opportunity to advance in rank, earn ribbons, wear the official uniform, and continue developing skills in areas such as leadership, community service, academic excellence, first aid, swimming, and drug resistance education.
The program is open to all youth ages 8 through high school who are in good standing at school.
